Software Engineer by Day
When he's not programming as a full stack software engineer or playing video games with his friends, jpe (pronounced jay-pay) is working on new music as an up-and-coming DJ from San Francisco, CA. After years of enjoying electronic dance music and attending music festivals, he became passionate about it and decided to teach himself how to produce music. His mixes range from house to trap & dubstep to sad & emotional.
Being a close, personal friend of his, I was honored to be the one to design his first logo. This logo embodies his fun, easygoing personality and gives listeners an idea of who he is even if they've never met him.

What's in a Name?
Beyond hard-working, jpe would be described by most people as friendly, fun-loving, and laid-back. These are the three words I focused on when initially sketching out his logo. jpe is a nickname for his full name Jonathan Pe, something I also considered during the sketching process. Ultimately, choosing a logo that was all lowercase with curved edges provided the soft, relaxed nature that jpe himself emanates.

The final logo is stylized as all lowercase with a handwritten signature type energy. The slight upward tilt subtly adds dynamics to the logo, even in its simple form. Keeping it simple and clean not only matches jpe's personality, but it also allows for variability in future designs, whether that's merchandise, graphics, etc.
While there are many amazing DJ's, I think it is extremely important to support local artists and their talents, especially if they're passionate about it. jpe's Instagram and SoundCloud accounts can be found at the bottom of the page. Occasionally, he can be found on Twitch streaming DJ sets at twitch.tv/jpe_TV. This is only the beginning of his work as a DJ and I am ecstatic I was able to use my own passion to contribute.
