It's Light's Out and Away We Go!
Formula 1's global reach has increased significantly due to initiatives such as Netflix’s Drive to Survive and expanded digital content. The sport’s recent surge in popularity has been especially pronounced in the United States, where viewership has more than doubled since 2018. To help educate the new fans, I designed an app featuring the history and statistics of the 2026 teams and drivers.
The Opportunity
As a newer Formula 1 fan, I found it challenging to keep track of drivers and teams. While the official F1 app provides a wealth of information, navigating to basic details often felt overwhelming and unintuitive. Inspired by a website that showed a visual chart of the lineage of all Formula 1 drivers, this project was driven by a goal to create a more accessible and user-friendly experience, helping all fans discover and engage with the world of F1.

Research & Planning
Beyond tracking driver and team relationships, I wanted to create a central hub for the information fans frequently search for across multiple sources. To accomplish this, I gathered and organized data spanning driver profiles, career statistics, team histories, championship results, and team performance metrics. Because each Formula 1 team has a distinct visual identity, I also developed a flexible color system that could adapt across screens and components while maintaining strong brand recognition and a cohesive user experience throughout the app.
Designing & Prototyping
Given the breadth of information being incorporated into the app, I approached the design process incrementally, building out core features in stages: driver information, driver history, team information, and team history. Leveraging Figma's component system allowed me to efficiently create reusable patterns, maintain consistency, and rapidly assemble a cohesive interactive prototype. While accuracy and accessibility of information were primary goals, the overall design focused on visual recognition, intuitive navigation, and presenting complex data in a way that felt approachable and easy to digest.
The Pinnacle of Motorsport
An F1 companion app designed to make the sport more accessible for both new and longtime fans. By consolidating driver profiles, team histories, statistics, and career data into a visually intuitive experience, the app simplifies information discovery and reduces the need to navigate multiple external sources. The resulting prototype combines strong team branding, scalable design systems, and user-friendly navigation to create a faster and more engaging way to learn about Formula 1.
Future development would focus on adding race circuit profiles and integrating a live database to provide real-time driver and constructor standings. These enhancements would evolve the app from an educational resource into a comprehensive Formula 1 companion that stays current throughout the season.
